Swedish auto giant Volvo boasts a long tradition of excellence in design and innovation, dating back 80 years. The company’s core design philosophy is strikingly similar to that of the traditional Japanese aesthetic of simplicity and functionality.
As a foreign company deeply committed to Japan, Volvo is always looking for ways to give back to the local community. Volvo’s latest contribution is based on the pillars of design and innovation: to support the artistic and creative segments in Japan by giving them the opportunity to showcase their work in the 2009 Volvo Cars Japan calendar, which will be distributed to the 75,000 Volvo owners in Japan.
Volvo encourages talented, up-and-coming artists and designers in Japan to submit their work to THE INAUGURAL VOLVO ART AND DESIGN COMPETITION 2008, whose theme is “Interpretation of Modern Scandinavian Design.”
The competition is open to all residents of Japan, regardless of nationality. Please visit www.volvoart.jp for more information (in Japanese only).
Ad-comm has been promoting the competition nationwide in famous art and design school, artistic communities and websites. Thousands of people have already visited the aforementioned site, with many more sure to follow before the Sept. 12 deadline.
In conjunction with fellow Swedish company BoConcept, Volvo will offer the first 25 entrants who submit their work a BoConcept gift voucher worth 5,000 yen. There are also great prizes for the winners, including the grand prize—a trip for two to Sweden!
